The authors review the main elements of immunology by looking at how our immune system fight different types of infections but also cancer. In addition, it explains what can go wrong for the immune system and how medical science can use the immune system therapeutically. It can be used as an overview book for the long higher education programs but can also be used as a small textbook for the short and medium health education programs. About the authors: Ib Søndergaard has been researching immunology among other places at the TechnicalUniversity of Denmark and taught immunology and biochemistry for more than 30 years. He has served on the Research Council for Technology and Production and on the Nutrition Council. He now works as a lecturer at Folkeuniversitetet (University extension) and as a teacher and adviser in the biomedical industry via his company Biolearning (biolearning.dk). Mads Duus Hjortsø is employed by Pfizer, where he works with the immune system and cancer. He has taught in immunology and microbiology at the Metropol University of Applied Sciences.
